Community Foundation Grant Pending
A grant has been applied for through the Community Foundation to assist in the purchase of a supply of sealed bottled distilled water for emergency purposes and for a set of parallel bars which would be available for residents to use for exercising. We are being considered as recipients for this grant and have an appointment with the Community Foundation Board of Director for a sight visit. We are expecting them here on Friday, April 24 at 5:00 p. m. This could be a good opportunity to enlist their interest and support on other needed services and/or equipment for the Rippling River community. It is requested that everyone that can get out that day drop around the mail room or the craft room to meet these folks.

Dory Schoonmaker's Birthday Party
Born five years before the Wright brothers finally achieved powered flight at Kitty Hawk in 1903, Dory has been a witness to a century of the most wrenching changes ever experienced by man, on a global scale. Also that year, Teddy Roosevelt went to Cuba and led a charge up San Juan hill. Those were events of the nineteenth century. Can you believe it? In less than two years we will know someone whose life will have touched three centuries! Dory lives up a flight of stairs, on the second floor of Building Two, with Snickers The Cat. Happy birthday Dory. It is a privilege to know you. Because Dory is arriving at the big "C", the Residents Association is taking this opportunity to throw a birthday bash and eat cake and talk loud. Details of the event are being finalized as I write this. Watch this webpage for the earliest breaking news of time and place. /Webmaster Philip

FEBRUARY CERT MEETING POSTPONED The meeting of the Community Emergency Response Team training class
that was scheduled for February was canceled because of rain. Dorothy McEwen
was in Nagano supporting our Olympic team that week and would not be at
the meeting. Mark Angel, in his capacity as the Carmel Chapter Disaster
Coordinator, had sudden priority shifts and suggested that we schedule
the three remaining meeting one month into the future. The request seemed
reasonable and proper, so the February meeting of the CERT training classes
will be held on the first Thursday in March, etc. This will give Mark an
opportunity to brush-up on his skills and for us to dry-out.

The Mural is Finished!
After thirteen year of recurrent effort, the grandiose scheme of creating
a mural depicting the natural beauty of Carmel Valley has been completed.
Thanks to many hands and minds, clay has been fashioned into twenty ceramic
panels that now hang on the north side of the Crafts Room. There will be
a dedication ceremony held September 10, 1999 at 2:00 p. m. Refreshments
will be available, and a short presentation will occur. Mark it on your
social calendar to come check it out.
