Crisis
for People Living at Rippling River
On August 8, 2002,
and again on August 21, 2002, the Housing Authority presented a slide show
to the residents which illustrated the options they were considering for
Rippling River. A real possibility is Rippling River residents will
be moved to other locations in Monterey County. Several people have ask
about the meetings. With permission from management, the pamphlet of that
presentation has been scanned and is available for viewing here:

Board
of Supervisors Meet at Rippling River
The Board of Supervisors of the Housing Authority
of Monterey County held their August 26, 2002 meeting in the Mail Room
at Rippling River. The meeting was held here so the residents and members
of the Carmel Valley community could voice their concerns of the various
options that Housing Authority has proposed for the future of Rippling
River. They will use this information as they search for a solution to
the Rippling Rivers situation.
The mail room was filled to absolute capacity
and late arrivals clustered around the mail room entrance and the door
that opens into the library to hear the amazing proceedings within.
The meeting lasted for approximately two
hours, and most of the meeting was given over to the audience to speak.
The majority of those that spoke were from the community, and they were
unanimous in support of the residents remaining at this location.
Many offered their services to Housing
Authority in their search for remedy of the problems that causes Housing
Authority to consider abandoning Rippling River.
At the close of the meeting the chairman
thanked everyone for their participation, and promised to consider the
available options under the illumination brought forth by this event. The
meeting was adjourned on a hopeful note.

Study Group Holds First Meeting
The first meeting of the Rippling River Study Group was held September 3, at Rippling River.
The group consists of three members from Housing Authority, three members from the Resident's Association and three members from the Carmel Valley community. Also included in the meetings is an architect.
The purpose of the Study Group is to create a report for the Board of Supervisors of Housing Authority to use when they determine the future of Rippling River.
In this first meeting the members acquainted themselves to one another. Protocol and ground rules for the meetings were established.
It was quickly determined that best work would be done if all members of the committee were well educated as to the conditions Housing Authority faces managing Rippling River. Housing authority readily offered to supply each member of the committee with a full set of documents. In addition, a set of documents would be established in the library reading room at Rippling River and the Carmel Valley library has agreed to host a set at that the library on Carmel Valley Road. There is a lot of reading to be done. The stack of documents on the table in front of Starla was half a foot high. It is expected the documents will be distributed next week.
The next meeting will be September the seventeenth.
