In 1980 I decided to start a publishing company in order to publish some of the compositions of my parents.
My mother, Ida Bostelmann (1894-1979), was a graduate of the Juilliard
School of Music and had 140 published compositions, most of them piano
pieces I am combining into three volumes according to their technique demands.
She also wrote a number of art songs, published and unpublished, which
are being compiled into a volume.
My father, Scribner Cobb (1907-1951), studied with Arnold Schonberg and was Head of the Theory Department at the New York City High School of Music and Art for eight years. A graduate of Amherst College, where he majored in philosophy, he was a conductor and played every instrument in the orchestra.
He left a few published instrumental ensembles as well as an unpublished
symphony, a flute suite, a 'cello sonata and a series of band pieces. Several
of his orchestral works were performed by Howard Hanson, Eugene Ormandy,
Erno Rapee and others. A volume of his poetry will be published soon. A
heavy smoker, he died at the age of 43 of Hodgkins Disease.
In l982 I met Terence Dolph and soon published Gongstream, followed by
Gongstream 11, and then Gongs for Meditation. In 2003 I published The Voices
of Bronze, which is digitally recorded and available on CD. The fist three
audio cassettes are out of print, but there are a few which can be ordered
for $7.00 each.
Next will be a CD entitled Sleep, Baby, Sleep, which is currently being
recorded. Several babies have benefitted from the demo cassette, and one
mother told me her baby won't go to sleep without it, especially in the
middle of the night! It also helps parents to sleep and soothes frazzled
nerves.
